Legal Aid

It has been said that one lawyer in a town will starve to death but if there are two, both will become very rich.
Basically, it seems that rather than being some kind of social sophistication, legal aid is simply an excuse for lawyers to feed off the taxpayer by inventing excuses to fight each other in court.
Perhaps the government should save money by just getting rid of it. If government cuts are going to have to be made, why shouldn’t the lawyers carry their share of the burden?
Why should the taxpayer pay for two people, egged on by their lawyers, to indulge in one kind of legal dispute or other?
Lawyers will always be the first to stand up and speak about the need for a compassionate society to have a system of legal aid, but they would wouldn’t they?
