One Soldier's War
in Chechnya

A superb book.

A study of the self in the midst of war. A brutal war. One in which many thousands died and where stomachs were opened with bayonets so the innards could be torn out and used to strangle their owner. Where throats were casually slit and others were idly shot in the back of the head for almost no reason.

In the annals of military literature this book is certain to rank as a classic but anyone who is tempted to think of Babchenko as another Tolstoy will have to remember that this is not a work of fiction.

If you are interested in military matters, this is one book you shouldn't miss.
